An Introduction to Mindfulness

Kids and Teen Yoga is a fun way to introduce mindfulness tools that can help them their whole lives. It is a way for kids to learn to self regulate, learn their own emotions, create body awareness, cultivate confidence, self reflection and empathy for others. They will learn simple breathing techniques for times of stress, as well as activities for calming the nervous system and slowing thoughts. Classes are co-created with the children and involve creativity and fun.

The 5 Keys of Mindfulness

Journaling

Journaling or drawing is a way to connect to our inner world. Journaling can organize thoughts, calm the nervous system and slow thoughts down. 

Breathing Exercises

Basic breathing exercises can help calm our nervous systems and connect us to our bodies. Breathing can help ground and calm the body taking us out of fight or flight response.

Movement

Classes will include a fun yoga practice with easy shapes connected to nature, partner yoga, and dancing. The goal is to have fun and move, but also to gain knowledge and confidence in the way our bodies move.

Meditation

The challenge is to find calm and stillness. It will include audio suggestions like a walk in nature or looking up at the sky. This introduction to meditation will teach students the basic techniques to practice stillness and letting go of tension. Can you become a witness to your inner world and notice the quality of your thoughts.

Gratitude Practice

What are you grateful for today? We begin the habit of turning attention to the moments big or small that bring us joy or peace.
